Gambling Impact Observed by Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia, a province in Canada, is hoping to break new ground in finding the social and economic impacts of gambling in its province, according to the Chronicle Herald. A spokesman for the Environment and Labor Department, Bill Turpin, said officials believe a socio-economic study will be finished by September of next year. It will be the first of its kind in the country.
According to a request for proposals, each of the gambling areas - the ticket lottery, casinos, bingo, online gambling, video lottery terminals, and harness racing - 'will be examined from a societal perspective (including both public and private perspectives). This will include examining the impacts on individuals, households, communities, business, government and the economy.' The gambling study will be made public and is expected to cost a maximum of 250,000 dollars Canadian.
With a gambling war taking place in the US Congress, and the recent arrest and indictment of CEO David Carruthers from Bet On Sports, Canada is definitely looking at the gambling situation in its country seriously. Hopefully this study will be able to provide solid answers and information for Nova Scotia. It is easy to understand why Canada would want a clear understanding of the dynamics of gambling in its cities and provinces. The impact gambling would have on Nova Scotia would be a substantial one that should not be taken lightly. Only time will tell how this province will lean once the study is completed and scrutinized.
